At this point, I’m definitely in rejuvenation mode.
Half-joking, half-serious, he even talks about challenging for free agency again. The brothers are still going strong. We’re talking about Choi Hyung-woo (40) of the KIA Tigers and Kang Min-ho (38) of the Samsung Lions.
As of the 19th, Choi is batting 3-for-8 with 8 home runs and 37 RBIs. His OPS is over 9%.
Against the NC on the 16th, he had two home runs, four RBIs, and three runs scored in a come-from-behind victory. His reactions at the plate and range are as good as a young catcher. He is invincible with his experience.
Choi is on the verge of a major milestone in his baseball career.
With two more RBIs in the three-game series against the Daejeon Hanwha starting on the 20th, he will become the first player in KBO history to reach the coveted 1500 RBI plateau. Choi’s 1498th career RBI against Gwangju NC on Sept. 17 tied Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop’s all-time record for most RBIs. He needs just one more RBI to take sole possession of first place. Choi Hyung-woo continues to update the KBO’s record for most career doubles (476).
Kang Min-ho is not far behind Choi.
He bats fourth and is the centerpiece of the batting order. When he’s not wearing a catcher’s mask, he plays almost every game as a designated hitter and contributes to the team’s offense.
He has eight home runs and 36 RBIs with a 3-for-6 batting average. An OPS of 8.33. That’s a pace similar to Choi Hyung-woo’s.
Kang Min-ho is also challenging for the record. He has broken the record for most games played (2237) held by commentator Park Yong-taek.
As of today, he has played 2164 games, ranking third all-time behind Jung Sung-hoon (2223). With just 74 more games to go, he will become the long-awaited KBO player with the most games played in the league’s history.
This is doubly valuable as the catcher position is extremely injury-prone and physically demanding. Kang Min-ho’s record is also significant. He’s been alternating between catcher and designated hitter, so barring any injuries, he could reach the record this season.
He’s also on pace to break Park’s record for most home runs by 안전놀이터 a catcher (314). With 311 home runs as of Sept. 19, he needs just four more to become the catcher’s all-time home run king. Kang Min-ho surpassed Hong Seong-heon’s record for most RBIs by a catcher (1120) with a double against Lotte on the 11th.
The two players are setting an example for their juniors with their unwavering passion and self-management. The longer they stay healthy and on the field, the more amazing records they are accumulating. They will be remembered forever.
