Brett Phillips, who ate rice with Choi Ji-man (Pittsburgh Pirates) during the Tampa Bay Rays, is heading to the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels said on the official website on the 10th (Korean time), “The club has agreed to a one-year contract with outfielder Phillips. He is welcome to join the team.”
Local media such as ‘The Athletic’ reported, “The contract was revealed to be a one-year major league contract and the scale was $1.2 million.” 메이저놀이터
Phillips made his debut with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2017, then went through the Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay and Baltimore Orioles.
He recorded a career batting average of 0,188, 28 homers, 93 RBIs, 113 runs, and an OPS of 0.620. Capable of digesting all positions in the outfield, he was mainly active as a backup outfielder.
Last year, he had a batting average of 0.144, 5 homers, 15 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.466, and was DFA to make room for Jose Siri. Afterwards, he received a claim from Baltimore and transferred, but was DFA again due to a further plunge in batting average.
The Angels currently have only one left-handed hitter in the outfield, Mickey Moniak. Accordingly, another left-handed hitter, Phillips, was brought in to balance the game.
