KT Rolster Kim “Gi-in” Ki-in expressed his feelings after finishing the first round with 8 wins and 1 loss.
KT defeated OK Savings Bank Brion 2-0 in the fifth week of the regular season of the 2023 LoL Champions Korea (LCK) Summer League at the LCK Arena in Jongno-gu, Seoul on Sunday. With the win, the team improved to 8-1 (+14) and finished the first round in sole possession of second place.
Winning seven straight matches and 14 straight sets was a first for the veteran top laner. “It’s the first time I’ve finished the first round with an 8-1 record since I started playing professionally,” Kim said after the match, adding, “It’s unbelievable.”
The KT roller coaster only stopped once in the first round, in front of Genji. It didn’t stop for a single set after that. Kim said he didn’t expect this kind of performance even at the start of the season.
“Actually, I had a good scrim just before the start of the spring season,” he said, “but after the start of the season, I didn’t perform as well. “We had a similar feeling when we scrimmaged right before the start of this season, so we weren’t expecting to do as well as we did.
It wasn’t a perfect first round. “Actually, it wasn’t a completely smooth first round,” said Kim. There were some bumps and bruises,” Kim said. “Our teammates know that we have a great ability to engage. However, we still have accidents in the lineup phase,” he said, adding, “We need to fix this part of our game to make it smoother.”
Aside from the team’s performance, Kim also said he was dissatisfied with his own performance, feeling that his lineup skills had declined from the beginning of the season. “At the beginning of the season, I personally felt that my lineup was clean, but lately, there are some things I don’t like,” he said.
“In the first set today, there were some things I didn’t like about the lineup. In the second set, the deal exchanges went well, and I was able to open up a growth gap with my opponent. I was lucky,” he added. He gave up a CS lead to his opponent in game one. In the second game, he took a big lead.
In conclusion, Kim vowed to continue to accumulate as many wins as possible in the second round. “I want to do well in the second round, and my goal is to reach the finals and the ‘LoL World Championship’ (Rold Cup),” he said.
“We want to qualify for the Rold Cup by reaching the finals, and we also want to finish the summer season with a better performance than the spring season,” said Kim. KT finished the spring season in third place. “We will do well in the second round. We ask for a lot of support from our fans.”
