‘Ugly duckling’ Man U RB turns around his fortunes…early pick-up of one-year extension option

You never know what’s going to happen with people.

Manchester United’s “ugly duckling” Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not leaving the club. The Red Devils are reportedly preparing to extend Wan-Bissaka’s contract by one year, with the player now considered too important to the club.

Wan-Bissaka signed a 5+1 year deal when he joined United in 2019. With the base five-year deal set to expire next summer, United are looking to exercise their option to extend for an additional year early. That would keep Wan-Bissaka at the club until the summer of 2025.

It’s a twist. In fact, Wan-Bissaka had long since become one of United’s “ugly ducklings. He was a starter after joining the club, but his form dropped off in the 2021-2022 season, and he became a candidate for a transfer. He was also embroiled in off-field controversy. He fell off the radar after the arrival of Erik ten Haag last season. Diogo Dalot became the unchallenged first-choice right-back. United are keen to sell Wan-Bissaka. Few expected Wan-Bissaka to stay at United.

But when Dalot was injured at the World Cup in Qatar, Wan-Bissaka’s chance came. He impressed in the second half of the season. He looked like he was back to his best. 토토사이트

The Sun reports that United will exercise the option of a one-year extension early, and Van Gaal is determined to keep hold of him. Van Gaal started Wan-Bissaka in all three preseason games against Leeds, Lyon, and Arsenal. Dalot is not in a comfortable position either.

Wan-Bissaka has scored two goals and provided 11 assists in 160 appearances in all competitions since joining the club.
